Nightguard for Bruxism – Teeth Grinding
One of the worst dental habits could be occurring while you sleep. Many Americans engage in nighttime teeth grinding or teeth clenching. If you aren’t suffering from the consequences of teeth grinding during the day, you may have a bed partner that has made you aware of your habit. In either case, it is important to start protecting your smile with general dentistry. Three Creek Dentistry is a full-service dental practice that specializes in treating bruxism or teeth grinding. We provide comfortable solutions to help you avoid the serious dental problems that can result from grinding or clenching your teeth while you sleep.
Protect Your Smile While You Sleep
Do you suffer from morning headaches, sore jaw muscles or worn teeth? You may be grinding or clenching your teeth during the night. A custom nightguard is an excellent way to protect your teeth and jaw muscles from your destructive habit. While it is often a subconscious habit or one that you do when you’re stressed, bruxism can put excessive strain on your jaw muscles and teeth over time. This can even lead to TMJ problems and the need to repair damaged teeth.
At Three Creek Dentistry, we won’t make you sacrifice your comfort in order to protect your smile. We provide nightguards that fit your unique mouth measurements. They are also made of smooth, highly durable materials so that you get a long-term return on your investment. If you suspect that you are grinding or clenching your teeth while you sleep, contact Three Creek Dentistry and make an appointment to discuss dental nightguards with one of our smile specialists. Protecting your oral health is something we are trained and eager to do.
How are custom nightguards created?
First, dental impressions will need to be taken to create the custom fit for your new mouthguard. This is a quick process that can be done at the end of a routine dental visit, or we can schedule a short appointment for you. Then, the impressions will be sent to an off-site lab, and your new custom nightguard will be designed and created. Another short appointment will be scheduled after it arrives so you can try it on and ensure that it fits properly. We will make some final adjustments, if necessary, and then you can begin using it that very night!
Does bruxism ever go away?
Some patients only grind their teeth occasionally, typically when they feel more stressed out or anxious. In other cases, patients may find that they grind their teeth almost every night no matter what. Whether you grind your teeth every so often or every single night, we recommend investing in a custom mouthguard. Teeth grinding can cause a great amount of damage to the teeth, gums, and jaw, and wearing a nightguard is a simple habit that can go a long way in protecting your smile.
Are custom nightguards expensive?
Custom nightguards tend to cost more than one-size-fits-all oral appliances due to the fact that they are customized based on each unique smile. However, they are often a great investment for patients who regularly grind their teeth due to how durable they are. Their comfortable fit also means that patients are more likely to wear them on a nightly basis.
